🍯Learning From Captain Moroni's Example - #21
Diving into one of Captain Moroni's attributes, and some quick thoughts on trusting God in adversity
🍯Welcome to Issue #21 of the Flecks of Gold Newsletter. :)
This is the TENTH ONE that I am writing on the new daily schedule.
I am getting more the hang of writing these.
I enjoy it, and look forward to seeing what happens with them.
I love reading about Captain Moroni in The Book of Mormon. He was always preparing and God trusted Him. This verse about his character stands out to me.
17 Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men. - Alma 48:17
This makes me think about what I can do today to become more like Captain Moroni.
Let’s dive into a few of his attributes briefly:
“A man of a perfect understanding” - Alma 48:11
“A man whose heart did swell with thanksgiving to his God” - Alma 48:12
“A man who was firm in the faith of Christ” - Alma 48:13
There’s plenty more here, but this is a good place to start.
To keep this newsletter short, I’ll just dive into one of these attributes out of context -
“A man whose heart did swell with thankgiving to his God.”
To me, this means that Captain Moroni was patient with God.
I am sure there were times where he prayed for things that did not happen.
Yet, Captain Moroni continued to honor his role as a captain and as a servant of Christ.
This gives me a lot of encouragement as I am building my own life.
It’s important that I spend time in things that remind me to give thanks to God.
Nephi showed a great example of how to respond when adversity crashes on us like a wave.
16 Nevertheless, I did look unto my God, and I did praise him all the day long; and I did not murmur against the Lord because of mine afflictions. - 1 Nephi 18:16
We can choose to be patient with God and keep preparing for war like Nephi and Captain Moroni if we so desire.
When we complain about things outside of our control or even reject what God is telling us, it will surely lead to deeper misery.
I am thankful for these powerful leaders in scripture about trusting God and being patient with Him.
Let’s all resolve to be more like Captain Moroni and Nephi, which in turn will help us all to become more like Christ.
